In our second podcast, AEN Senior Research Associate Linda Maizels interviews Cary Nelson, Jubilee Professor of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. This podcast, excerpted from an earlier conversation, refers to the publication of Nelson’s book, co-edited with Gabriel Brahm: The Case Against Academic Boycotts of Israel. In our first podcast, AEN Executive Director Ken Waltzer interviews David Hirsh, a Lecturer in Sociology at Goldsmiths College, University of London, and the founder of Engage, a campaign against academic boycotts of Israel. Hirsh explains how BDS, anti-Zionism, and antisemitism relate to one another, and how the political left and right often engage in the same defensive tropes.

The themes discussed in the podcast are similar to those brought up in Hirsh’s keynote presentation at AEN’s first National Conference.
